Fareham begins work on a new Local Plan

Fareham Borough Council has launched scoping and engagement consultations for a new Local Plan, with a Call for Sites open until 31 October 2026.

Fareham Borough Council announced on 24 August 2026 that work has begun on a new Local Plan for the Borough, and invited residents, businesses and organisations to have their say.

The council said the plan will guide how Fareham develops in the years ahead, covering homes, jobs, infrastructure, community facilities and the environment.

Consultations

The first step is a Local Plan Scoping Consultation to identify the issues, opportunities and priorities that matter to local people and stakeholders. At the same time the council sought views on its Draft Local Plan Engagement Strategy, which sets out how communities will be involved as the plan is prepared. Both consultations ran from 24 August to 2 October 2026, so the comment period has now closed. Documents were made available at libraries across the Borough and at the Civic Offices in Fareham town centre.

Call for Sites

Separately, the council is running a Call for Sites technical exercise, required as part of preparing a Local Plan, to identify land that may be suitable for future consideration. The council said this will remain open until 31 October 2026.

Councillor Malcolm Daniells, Executive Member for Planning and Development, said the scoping consultation and engagement strategy are the first steps and will help the council understand the borough's opportunities and challenges.

Landowners and others with questions about the Call for Sites can email planningpolicy@fareham.gov.uk or visit the new Local Plan page. The announcement is on the Fareham Borough Council website.
