Portchester is a coastal village on the northern shore of Portsmouth Harbour, within Fareham Borough. It is best known for Portchester Castle, a remarkably complete Roman fort with a Norman castle keep inside it — with most of its Roman defences still standing. The castle is managed by English Heritage and is open to visitors throughout the year.
Portchester is primarily a residential area with a village centre and local amenities around Castle Street. The waterfront offers views across Portsmouth Harbour.
