Coastal village on Portsmouth Harbour, home to the historic Portchester Castle.
Portchester is a coastal village on the northern shore of Portsmouth Harbour, within Fareham Borough. It is best known for Portchester Castle, a remarkably complete Roman fort with a Norman castle keep inside it — one of the finest examples of Roman coastal fortification in northern Europe. The castle is managed by English Heritage and is open to visitors throughout the year.
Portchester is primarily a residential area with a village centre and local amenities along Castle Street and White Hart Lane. The waterfront offers views across Portsmouth Harbour.
