Fort Nelson marks Remembrance Sunday with a free WWI play
Royal Armouries will observe the two-minute silence at Fort Nelson on 8 November 2026 and stage a free play, Our Little Fort.
Royal Armouries has announced a free Remembrance Sunday event at Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill on 8 November 2026.
According to the event page on the Royal Armouries website, the national two-minute silence will be observed at 11am. The fort is open from 10am to 4pm that day, and the event is described as suitable for all the family.
Our Little Fort
A specially commissioned First World War play, Our Little Fort, will be performed by Time Will Tell Theatre at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm. The organisers describe it as a "poignant insight" into life at the fort at the end of the war. It is based on letters and diaries written by two soldiers, George Weston and John Stanisforth, who were stationed there for part of the First World War.
Time Will Tell Theatre is quoted on the page as saying the Weston and Stanisforth letters "offer a lovely personal insight into the life of Fort Nelson at the end of the First World War".
Tickets and parking
The event is free, but visitors are asked to pre-book tickets to guarantee entry. Arrival slots run hourly from 10am to 11am up to 2pm to 3pm, and visitors can stay as long as they wish. Parking is £3 per vehicle, payable on arrival. Dogs, other than service animals, are not allowed at Fort Nelson. As a charity, Royal Armouries asks visitors to consider a donation when booking.
