How much is council tax in Fareham for 2026/27?

Fareham Borough Council publishes the Band D figure for 2026/27 as £2,270.55 for the year. That is the full charge for a Band D home, because the borough council collects council tax for four authorities on one bill.

Band D is the middle of the eight valuation bands, A to H, which are set by the value of a property. This guide gives the Band D figure only. For the charge on your own band, see the council's bands and charges page or the 2026/27 council tax leaflet (a PDF) linked from the council tax page.

Who gets what share of my council tax?

The council's Band D page gives the 2026/27 split for a Band D property. Hampshire County Council receives £1,690.11. The Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner receives £290.46. Fire and Rescue receives £92.84. Fareham Borough Council keeps £197.14, which funds services such as refuse and recycling collection, planning, housing, environmental health, street cleaning and sport and recreation.

The rest of your bill pays for county, police and fire services rather than the borough council's own.

How much has Fareham's share gone up?

The borough council's Band D charge rose from £191.42 in 2025/26 to £197.14 in 2026/27, an increase of £5.72 a year, according to the council tax page.

How do I pay my Fareham council tax?

The council's paying page points to online payment and to MyAccount, the council's online portal. Your bill shows your instalment dates, and the council tax team can tell you about Direct Debit options. Payments are also taken at the Reception Desk at the Civic Offices, Civic Way, Fareham, PO16 7AZ, between 8.45am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, according to the council's opening hours page.

If you are struggling to pay, contact the council before you fall behind. The paying page has a section called "What happens if I don't pay?" and another on getting help to reduce your bill.

What discounts and help are available?

The council's discounts and exemptions page is a menu of separate pages covering discounts, disregards, exemptions, disabled relief, premiums on long term empty properties and second homes, Council Tax Support and appeals. Which one applies depends on who lives in the property and how it is used, so start with the section that matches your situation rather than assuming you qualify.

Council Tax Support is the help for people on a low income. The council has a Council Tax Support page headed "Council Tax Support Scheme from 1 April 2026", with separate information for pensioners and for working-age people. Go to that page for the eligibility rules and to apply.

What do I do when I move home?

The council's moving home page is clear on the order of things. If you are moving out, complete the online vacation form so your bill can be adjusted. If you are moving in, submit the occupation form promptly so you get your bill and the full choice of instalments. If you will be the only adult living in the property, there is a form to claim the sole occupancy discount. Forms for disabled relief, mental impairment and student discounts are also available.

Watch out for council tax scams

The council warns that fraudulent texts and emails are circulating claiming there is no record of a council tax payment. If you get one, do not click anything. Contact the council directly using the details on its website.
