What day is my bin collection in Fareham?

Fareham Borough Council has an online lookup, the domestic refuse and recycling collection search, which gives your collection day from your address. It is linked from fareham.gov.uk/bincalendar. The council also publishes separate waste and recycling calendars for the west and east of the borough, and a bin calendar can be downloaded from the A to Z of the council website.

Check the lookup rather than an old calendar. The council announced on 6 October 2025 that collection days would change from 3 November 2025 to prepare for food waste, so a calendar from before then may be out of date.

If you cannot find your day, call the council's customer service team on 01329 236100, Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 5.15pm.

Which bin goes out when?

The council's bins page says refuse and recycling bins are emptied on alternate weeks. The green-lidded bin is for general waste and the blue-topped bin is for recycling. Bins should be at the kerbside by 6am on collection day, or put out the evening before.

How does the weekly food waste collection work?

Weekly food waste collections started in Fareham on 30 March 2026. According to the council's food waste page, the food waste is collected on the same day as your residual waste or recycling bins. Households with wheeled bins were given an outdoor food waste bin, and everyone was given an indoor kitchen caddy. The council asks you to write your house name or number on the outdoor bin. Properties with communal bins have a communal food waste bin.

Food waste means things like cooked and uncooked vegetables, meat and bones. The council's food waste questions page says it must be wrapped in a liner, and that any plastic bag will do, including carrier bags and bread bags. It states plainly that the outdoor bin will not be emptied if the food waste is not wrapped. Liquids, oils and fats, nappies, pet waste and litter do not go in, and neither does garden waste.

If you never received your caddy or bin, the council's launch announcement says to contact customer services on 01329 236100 or customerservicecentre@fareham.gov.uk.

What can go in the blue recycling bin?

The council points residents to its "What can I recycle?" pages and its A to Z of waste rather than a single list, so check there for specific items. For things that cannot go in your kerbside bins, see our recycling centre guide.

How much is garden waste collection in Fareham?

The council's garden waste service is called Clip and Collect. On its garden waste page, the 2025-26 subscription was £73 a year, or £62 for residents who bought a 140 litre bin when the service launched. A new 240 litre brown-lidded bin is a one-off £44. Collections are every two weeks, with up to 25 a year. The council says bin delivery can take up to four weeks in busy spring and summer months, with no reduction in the charge while you wait. Those are the 2025-26 prices, so check the page for the current year's fee. You can sign up through the council's garden waste portal, by phone on 01329 236100, or by email to clipandcollect@fareham.gov.uk.

How do I get a bulky waste collection?

The council runs a chargeable bulky waste service. The 2025-26 charges listed were £53 for one item including fridges and freezers, £81 for two smaller items, £124 for half a lorry load and £218 for a full lorry load. Charges can change, so check the page for the current price. A site visit may be needed before the final price is confirmed. Sofas, armchairs, beds, mattresses, tables, chairs, wardrobes and large appliances are collected on Mondays, excluding bank holidays. Items such as televisions, computer monitors, microwaves, paint, rubble and garden waste are not taken and should go to a household waste recycling centre. You can book through the online quote form, by phone on 01329 236100 or by email to PublicSpacesFrontline@fareham.gov.uk. Cancel before 4pm on the Friday for a full refund.

What if my bin was missed?

The missed bins page says you must report a missed collection within three working days. Its example is that a bin missed on Monday morning must be reported by 4pm on Wednesday. After that, the crews will have moved on and cannot return. The council will try to come back within two working days of your report. Report online or by phoning 01329 236100. Common reasons for a missed bin include putting it out after 6am, wrong items inside (the crew usually leaves a tag) and road access problems.

Are collections different at Christmas and bank holidays?

The council's bank holiday page says that on bank holidays bins are emptied on the usual day, with no change over bank holiday weeks. For Christmas 2026 it says information will be published nearer the time, so look at that page in December. It also says household waste recycling centres close only on 25 and 26 December and 1 January, and that Christmas trees can be collected in January if you subscribe to garden waste.
